The Ministry of Civil Aviation has asked telecom companies to create a buffer zone.
This will have a great impact on 5G service in residential and commercial areas.
Also, telecom companies will not be able to provide 5G services in and around the airport.

New Delhi. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has asked telecom companies to create a buffer and safety zone while implementing C-band 5G spectrum in and around the airport. The ministry has told the companies that there should not be any base station for 3.3 GHz-3.67 GHZ frequency range at a distance of 2,100 meters from both ends of the runway and 910 meters from the central line of the runway.

However, after a range of 2.1 km, 5G base stations can be set up in a perimeter area of 540 meters, but their power emission should be limited to 58 dBm/MHz. According to telecom companies, this move will mean that they will not be able to provide 5G services on certain bands in residential and commercial areas around airports and most terminals across the country.

5 bands can interfere with aircraft radio altimeter
This directive of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has come amid concerns raised at the global level. Actually, 5G bands can interfere with aircraft radio altimeters, especially when the aircraft are old. Explain that radio altimeters with GPS measure the height above the terrain to determine the path of the aircraft. They are also helpful in low visibility for scaling tall buildings, mountains and other obstacles.

Telecom companies denied
Telecom companies say that the band used by the altimeter is 4.2 GHz and not the 3.3-3.67 GHz that has been auctioned for 5G services in the country. There is a difference of 500 GHz between the two, so the 5G band cannot interfere with the aircraft radio altimeter.

5G services will not be available
In this regard, a senior official of a telecom company said that in Delhi, where there are three runways, the difference between the terminals will not be 500 meters. Therefore it will not be possible to offer 5G service on these terminals on this band. This means that in Delhi we will not be able to provide 5G services in areas like Vasant Kunj, Aerocity and so on. Because here hotels, and restaurants and Mahipalpur are all within that buffer zone.

Order to implement measures with immediate effect
At the same time, in a letter sent to Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea on Tuesday, the Telecom Service Providers have been asked to take these measures with immediate effect.
