Aadhaar number is being used by people to avail benefits of many government schemes and services. If it has been 10 years since your Aadhaar was issued, it is not mandatory to update it. UIDAI has given information about this by tweeting.
Actually, for some time this news was coming out that even once in 10 years, those who have not updated their Aadhar card, it has been made mandatory for them to update the Aadhar card.
Attention: #Aadhaar holders are encouraged to get their documents updated which helps in ease of living, better service delivery & also enables accurate authentication. Residents “may” do so on completion of every 10 years & is not #mandatory,
UIDAI tweeted the information
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) had issued a press release stating that it is not mandatory to update the Aadhar card. In a recently released press release, it has been clearly stated that the citizens of the country can ‘do this’ i.e. update their Aadhar card on the completion of every 10 years. But this is not mandatory.
Many times the address of the person changes or the surname changes after the marriage of the girls, in such a situation the Aadhaar should be updated. UIDAI is urging the citizens of the country to update their documents and is also encouraging them to do so.
