New Delhi. The common people have got another shock of inflation. Actually, Mahanagar Gas Limited has revised the prices of PNG and CNG. Now both cooking and driving a car will be costly for Mumbaikars. Mahanagar Gas has increased the price of auto gas by Rs 3.5 per kg while the price of piped cooking gas has been increased by Rs 1.5 per scm. The increased rates will be applicable from midnight tonight (November 5).

There was an increase in the month of August also
According to the MGL website, currently the price of CNG in Mumbai is Rs 86 per kg and that of PNG is Rs 24.65 per kg. The previous hike was effective in the month of August when MGL increased the retail price of CNG by Rs 6 per kg and that of PNG by Rs 4/scm.

The Center has increased the price of domestic and imported natural gas by more than 110 per cent since April 1. At the same time, VAT on these fuels has been reduced from 13.5 per cent to 3.5 per cent by the state.

Government revises gas prices twice a year
Despite liberalizing the energy sector, the government still largely controls both the price and supply of natural gas. Prices and supply allocation are decided in advance twice a year. The April 1 increase is valid until the end of September and the next revision is announced from October 1.
