People working in small sweet and salty manufacturers will become unemployed.
New Delhi. Confederation of All India Traders, a major organization of traders, on the proposal of nutrition label on packets of sweets and snacks (CAIT) has expressed concern. On Monday, this organization said that the draft rule by the food safety regulator FSSAI related to giving information about nutrition on the packet of food products will hurt the interests of small sweet and salty manufacturers.
Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) Last September, the Food and Drug Administration released a draft for packaged food companies to provide nutritional information on the front of the packet. In this, the concept of giving five star rating to food products on the basis of their nutritional value has been introduced.
‘The ground reality was not taken care of in the proposal’
CAT has written a letter to Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in protest against this. In this letter, CAT has expressed its concerns regarding the draft provision. CAT General Secretary Praveen Khandelwal said in the letter, “The proposed rules have been brought with the good intention of providing nutritious and quality food products to the countrymen.” But in this, the ground reality related to the food business and the standards related to the expenses of the customers have not been taken care of.
Khandelwal has said that through this proposed rule, FSSAI is trying to conduct the business of food products in a uniform manner whereas India is a country full of diversities.
He said, “Any rule governing all packaged food products on the same scale will create a situation of closure of business in front of a large number of small sweet and salty businessmen.” Due to this, a large number of people working in small confectioners and sweet-salty manufacturers will also become unemployed.
