
New Delhi. Famous for tea, the demand for Assam tea is not only in the country but also abroad. Due to which there has been a tremendous jump in the export of tea from India in the first 8 months of this year. Tea exports from India increased by 14.8 percent to 142.8 million kg in the first eight months (January-August) of the calendar year 2022. This information has been given in the figures of the Tea Board.
In the same period last year, the export of tea was 12 crore 21.8 lakh kg. According to the data, CIS countries including Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan remained the largest importers of Indian tea in the first eight months of 2022 with 35.6 million kg.
Last year 2 crore 91.3 lakh kg of tea was exported
In the same period a year ago, two crore 91.3 lakh kg of tea was exported to these countries. Industry sources said that due to the skyrocketing exports and container cost due to the war between Russia and Ukraine, tea exports have not increased substantially.
Most of the exports happen in these countries
After CIS countries, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was the second largest importer of tea importing 23.84 million kg. In the same period of the year 2021, the export of tea there was 92.7 lakh kg. Tea exports to the West Asian country did not increase in the first eight months of 2022 due to economic sanctions imposed on Iran by the US.
Exports to China, the largest producer and consumer of tea, declined to 3.55 million kg from January to August this year from 4.05 million kg in the same period last year.
